Star Lodge
A small reservoir in Horwich, Bolton, located off Crown Lane near Butterwick Fields. Originally used as a millpond, Star Lodge is now home to a variety of local wildlife.
Barratt Homes have submitted a planning application to repair the Star Lodge embankment, undertake associated engineering works, and address long-standing concerns affecting the area.

Is fishing allowed at Star Lodge?
No. Fishing has been banned since 2006 following complaints from local residents. The ban was put in place by the landowner and remains in effect. You can read more about this in The Bolton News.
Who owns and maintains the land?
The land is owned by Barratt Homes. If you notice any issues such as damage, fly-tipping, or antisocial behaviour, you can contact them through their website.
What wildlife can be seen at Star Lodge?
Star Lodge is home to ducks, geese, swans, herons, and various other birds, as well as fish and occasionally deer. Please don't feed the wildlife — it can be harmful to the animals and disrupt the local ecosystem.
Can I walk my dog around the lodge?
Yes, dog walkers are welcome on the surrounding paths. Please keep dogs on leads near the water's edge to avoid disturbing the wildlife, and clean up after them.
Is there parking nearby?
There is no dedicated parking for Star Lodge. If you are driving, please park considerately and be mindful of local residents.
